A lot has been achieved since the NAMES Project Netherlands announced their plan for an AIDSmonument in January 2013:

April 2013
Ten sponsors and one main sponsor have pledged contributions. Moral support from many organizations and individuals.

June 2013
Presentation of the project during Candlelight Memorial Concert (Aids Memorial Day).

July 2013
Support from the city of Amsterdam and Mayor Eberhard van der Laan.

14 November 2013
In cooperation with the City of Amsterdam, the art advisory committee and the NAMES Project chose a wonderful location on the IJ: opposite De Ruyterkade 113.

February 2014
The art advisory committee and the NAMES Project selected three artists from a long list of more than forty.

Early June 2014
The design competition starts. The three artists Jeroen Doorenweerd, Anya Gallaccio and Jean-Michel Othoniel are working on a draft design.

Early September 2014
Presentation of the three draft designs on the website. Everybody interested can vote for her/his favorite design. Start of corporate fundraising.

3 October 2014
Presentation of the winning design. Winning artist starts elaborating the draft design to a provisional design.

Late November 2014
Presentation of the provisional design. Media campaign in the days leading up to World AIDS Day, with the intensifying of fundraising.

March 2015
Definite art budget known. Commissioning of definite design.

June 2015
Presentation of the definite design. Commissioning of implementation.

November 2015
Completion of monument.
